In the Royal Arch Degree, we learn that in the deepest recesses of the old ruins is placed the thing that rebuilds. As is often the case, one thing is said when twelve are meant. So, if I am to try and break this down, two questions come to mind. What does the pit represent, and what does the treasure represent? To me, the pit is the inner most recess of oneself. Deep, hidden from the world, and not easily reached, it represents the deepest part of yourself where the core beliefs are held. They are not easily accessed, but upon it will your house be built. The treasure is the belief you hold yourself to, what you believe, and the foundation you’ll build your house/ temple upon. This is different for everyone, but I encourage us all to ask what your pit and what your treasures are.

What’s in Your Pit?
